MCU Tests has Increased in Sep, Molex is Noteworthy

In Sep 2024, the number of tests for microcontroller (MCU) increased, replacing FPGA in Aug and becoming the most tested component type in White Horse Labs in Sep.

MCU is an integrated circuit that controls device operation and specific systems. As a system semiconductor, the CPU and related modules are integrated into a chip to control machines and electronic devices, like a microcomputer. This is why MCU is called a single-chip computer or microcomputer.

FPGA, diodes, flash memory, and drivers, after MCU, constitute the main components of the components tested in August. In Sep, the number of tests for resistors, IGBTs, DRAMs, insulators, transceivers, etc. was relatively small.

Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Xilinx Electronics, ON Semiconductor, and Infineon are still the main manufacturers of test samples in September.

Among the many manufacturers, there is such a brand that attracts attention- Molex. Molex is a company from the United States that provides electrical solutions. It mainly produces products such as connectors and cable assemblies, and provides customized cable assembly solutions. This is not the first time that Molex has appeared in the White Horse Labs test samples, but in September, the number of tests for this brand of products increased significantly, which is a noteworthy phenomenon.

In Sep, most of the tests were carried out around EVI appearance inspection and solderability testing, and X-ray inspection and analysis and functional testing were also major inspection items. With the increasing demand for failure analysis, the number of dissection and cover analysis and XRF component analysis has increased. Among them, 72% of the tests were acceptable results, and the unacceptable result rate was 9.7%; the rest were recommended for further testing, that is, key test items needed to be completed to determine the true state of the test samples.
